Collecting and Travelling with your cake

If you are collecting your cake, please make sure the air con is on in your vehicle for at least 20 minutes before arriving to collect your cake. Your cake or bake will always be given to you in a secure box.  Please carry your cake box from underneath, using both hands to keep the cake upright and level. The cake should be placed flat in the passenger footwell or the boot ensuring that there are no loose items that could fall on the cake. Please drive slowly, avoiding routes with speed bumps and uneven surfaces if possible. We are always happy to help you carry your cake to your vehicle if you require help.

Storing your cake

Once your cake has been collected/delivered, your cake needs to be stored the correct way in order for it remain stable and as fresh as possible. For fondant covered cakes, we advise you to keep your cake in the box provided, in a cool room, away from any type of heat source. For buttercream cakes, we advise you to keep the cake in the box provided, in cool room away from heat and direct sun light. In warmer weather or homes where the heating is on,  we may advise you to store your cake in the fridge in the cake box provided. Taking the cake out of the box may cause damage to the cake if loose food items happen to fall onto the cake. The cake may also absorb food smells from the fridge if not kept in a box.  We advise you to take your cake out of the fridge 1-2 hours before cutting in order to get it back to room temperature. Please ask us if your not sure, we are always happy to advise.

Cutting your cake

Please ensure you have removed any non edible decorations,  toppers and any support dowels in your cake.  For tiered cakes, please run a knife underneath the top cake to unstick the cakes from each other. Using both hands or a cake lifter if you have one, lift your cake from underneath and place it onto a flat cake board, chopping board or plate. For all cakes hold a board against your cake. Using your other hand, use a knife to slice all the way along so you have a full slice of cake. Lay the board with the cake down on a flat surface. Cut the cake vertically in equal parts. Your cake is ready to be served. For smaller portions of cake, cut across the middle of the cake slice.  See image below for more help.

Best before date

Your cake is baked to ensure it is fresh for the date of your event. We will always advise that cakes are best consumed 48 hours after your event. Our cakes are made entirely of natural ingredients, so we’d like to remind you that because of this they will not have the extended shelf life of most supermarket cakes, which contain additives and preservatives to ensure their prolonged life. Cakes should be stored in an airtight container to retain freshness at room temperature.  In warmer weather, we will advise you to store your cakes in the fridge. Please remember any type of additional heat sources e.g. heating,  will shorten the shelf life of your cake.
